ELECTRICITY SOURCE METER
"Electricity comes from the wall."
People don't often consider where their electricity actually comes from. Currently, most US consumers rely on only one or two electrical power sources, commonly coal and natural gas. But as new energy technologies develop over the next few decades, our electricity portfolios will likely become diverse, and incoming proportions from these sources will vary from day to day. Would we think differently about the electricity we use if we could see where it came from?
The Electricity Source Meter is a future product-concept that reflects these potential changes. The meter displays the origin and proportions of each electricity source feeding the building at a given moment. The information would be based on data streams broadcast from each power generator. The project was developed while in residency at the Advanced Research Projects Agency, Energy.
